About

I'm a 50 year old *nobody special to anyone that doesn't love me*, who sometimes loves and often hates to cook. I live with my husband and partner of more than 30 years and our slightly *spethal* dog - Eddy.

I'm a full time foster carer and occasional party animal... because wine.

We moved house in 2015 to be closer to friends and family and we're currently fostering two beautiful children (siblings) who have permanence with us and we hope they'll stay until they're "all growed up" and possibly beyond.

I'm utterly crap at sticking to a plan... any plan - ask me what's for dinner right now, and I'll change my mind come 6 o'clock. It's a personality defect.

I've no good reason for this blog... I guess I just want somewhere to share my adventures in cooking, in a real way, and perhaps regain my original love of cooking along the way.

I hardly ever have all of the ingredients to cook a recipe and I usually discover that fact half way through cooking it. I drop things. I burn things. I break things. I cook food that no one but me wants to eat... and I eat it all. I also cook food that everyone likes, and I eat it all before they get home...

I'm becoming more rubenesque by the day!

Anyway, I hope that if you stumble across this blog, you like what you find, and find what you like.

Abbe x

  1. Lil! Abbe! *smooch smooch* I found your site and I'm loving it! Although I'll have to make low-carb,low-fat versions (no it does NOT defeat the purpose LOL).

Anyway, will be by again soon. I'm running late for an early morning family meeting (yes, I know).

  8. Dear Abbe,
I may not burn thing very often, but the rest of your description sounds a bit like me. So if changing my mind 10 times before even starting to cook, and maybe 3 more times while cooking due to lack of the ingredients I wanted to use, means your defective, then I'm just as defective.

However, your recipes, and beautiful photography, not to mention your wonderful off the cuff humor, would be a GREAT fit for our new site that is about to launch. I just couldn't seem to fit my entire press release with all the site info in here. Feel free to check out the site, most is up and running already. If it looks interesting to you e-mail me at vila@changingpantry.com , and I will send you information on linking back to your site.

I just keep looking at your Moroccan Lamb Tagine, I've just got to try that!

    Great Site,

  12. Hi Abbe. Just stumbled upon your brilliant cooking blog quite by chance whilst looking for the recipe for choc brownies by the Hummingbird Bakery....and there you were. They will be my next baking experiment. So many recipes of yours to try...Cornwall - Padstow in particular is one of our favourite places to visit. You are lucky to live in such a lovely part of the country. Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on with the brownies :) Karen x
