* Choc Chunk Rock Drops

I tried sooooooooooooooo hard not to eat one of these straight out of the oven.... Just not quite hard enough, and now my tongue is feeling a little bit delicate because of a HUGE chunk of melted chocolate that found it's way onto the end of it with absolutely no help from me, whatsoever.

It was worth it though.

Even if I have to live on ice cream for the rest of the week (oh woe is me).

Josh happened to mention that I tend to bake something sweet when he's gone to his nan's for the weekend, and would I mind doing it a bit earlier in the week and please could I butter his crumpets because he was getting it everywhere and make him a cup of tea... hmmmm.

We don't have a swear box because I'd never have any money.

We do - however - have Rock Drops and I've no idea why I don't make them more often. They're SO easy to make and SO easy to eat...

I just answered my own question... didn't I.

* Hazelnut Squares

Hazelnut Squares
We appear to be getting all four seasons in one day - I swear blind it was snowing out there a moment ago, but now the sun is shining and it's mizzling on and off. I've given up on getting the washing dried and although it's not quite cold enough to turn the heating on yet, I thought I could warm the place up briefly by turning the oven on and doing a spot of baking.

Yet again there are no biscuits in the tin, so I thought I'd make some Hazelnut Squares. Not quite a biscuit (cookie) and not quite a cake - they'll fill a hole if I get the munchies later on - which I will - because I'm awake.

These are stickily declicious and incredibly moreish - and very, very simple to make. You can substitute virtually any nut in place of the hazelnut, but why would you?

* Ginger Biscuits (Cookies)

Ginger Biscuits
I've been making this particular ginger biscuit since I was about 11 or 12 years old. I have a vague memory of the recipe coming from a very old Woman's Weekly recipe book, that someone gave to my mum, for me. Or that I just happened to purloin at some point and never told mum I'd taken it. The only other thing I ever cooked out of that book, was a fish dish that had baked beans and crisps (chips) in it.

Nice.

Don't think I made that one more than once...

... Today, the house was completely nude of biscuits of any description... not the normal status quo - so I thought I might as well take five minutes (quite literally) and make some... however... I've reached that stage in the month, when I'm running out of store cupboard ingredients, so my choice of biscuit was limited to whatever I could make with granulated sugar, a twig and a roll of double sided sticky tape.

I decided to save the twig and sticky tape in case I needed to stick the twig to something at any point in the future.

The granulated sugar was definitely an invitation to make ginger biscuits though.

* Chocolate Chip Oaties

Chocolate Chip Oaties Recipe
Two nights ago, we dropped our son off at his nan's and decided we'd try the *other Chinese takeaway* in the town - Wongs. It must have been there for at least 10 years or more - but it's still considered to be the *new place*.. compared to the *old place* - The Orient. Which has been there since time began. The way the tiles are falling off the walls, is proof of this.

Out of some misguided sense of loyalty (my dad knew the owner) we've continued to frequent The Orient... to sit for almost an hour waiting for either our food, or death - whichever arrived first. Only to get home with our supposed box of goodies to discover that A: We'd been given the wrong order or B: We had the correct order, but it was burned to a frazzle and a bit cardboardy.

The disappointment was never... disappointing.

Never again though.

The so called *new place* had our order ready and correct within 10 minutes. When we got home it was fresh, tasty and hot - and it was enough to feed the five thousand. We had to split it into two nights worth of food - which... long story longer... is why today's update is cookies.

I've not needed to cook a dinner for two days. Amazingly - I felt a very small sense of loss at this. Very small. Infinitesimal.

Thus - Cookies.

Oh yeah - and I turned the fridge into a rainbow again. Which was fun.
